Wales Deaf Heritage / Treftadaeth Byddar Cymru

It was my intention to create a Wales Deaf Heritage map for over 20 years. I started working on this map some time ago, using it for my own research.  Recently an international visitor wanted to be able to find deaf heritage places in Wales, so I sent them the link to the map with the caveat that it was nowhere near finished.  They encouraged me to make this available as it is – pins can be added to as time goes on and also explanatory notes.

People travel through Wales being aware of mainstream heritage, yet they will pass by deaf notable places completely oblivous.  This map seeks to change that.  Welsh deaf history is very much hidden on many levels, information is dispersed or hard to find and Welsh deaf history tends to be eclipsed by other countries.  I hope this map goes a small way to redressing that balance.
